Manual physical therapy

A specialized form of physical therapy delivered with touch, pressure, physical connection to the body as opposed to a device or machine. In manual therapy, practitioners use their hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and mobilize joints in an attempt to decrease pain caused by muscle spasm, muscle tension and joint dysfunction and increasing mobility.  Manual therapy focuses on the structure of our body to restore proper bio-mechanics, and in turn improving the function of our body.

Myofascial Technique

Myofascial Technique works with the fascial tissue that supports and is integrated in our entire body.  Fascia is very dense connective tissue that surrounds and covers every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein as well as all of our internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and spinal cord.  This system is one structure that connects us head to toe without interruption.  Treatment of this system is a gentle, hands-on technique that involves releasing restrictions throughout the body to restore mobility.  Patients benefits from increase mobility with less pain during activities.

CranioSacral Therapy

This technique was developed by Dr. J. Upledger, D.O.   CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.  By using a soft, gentle touch the therapists can balance one’s body through focusing and releasing tension in the cranial bones, sacrum and fascial systems.  This leads to improved function of the central nervous system and possibly other supporting systems.  People have reported having benefits of more energy, sleeping better, fewer incidences of illnesses, and help relieving chronic pain and headaches.

Strain / Counter-Strain

Strain / Counter-Strain, S/CS, was developed by Dr. Lawrence Jones.  This technique focuses on immediately treating muscles in spasm by passively bring them into a position of ease and comfort.  In doing so, the body naturally breaks the neuro-muscular reflex keeping the muscle in spasm.  By working on a deeper neuro-muscular level, patients tend to have longer lasting effects after treatment.

Vestibular Therapy

Vestibular Therapy is comprised of specific exercises or positions that are used to make changes in the vestibular system.  The desired effect of vestibular therapy is a reduction in dizziness and imbalance and a return to function

Visceral Mobilization

Visceral Manipulation was developed Jean-Pierre Barral. The organs of our body (viscera) are continuously in motion with the changes in fluid and air pressures of our body.  As we breathe our rib cage and abdomen move and so on move all of our viscera.  Our body may have structural restrictions with connective tissue, ligaments, and muscles that support our viscera affecting the performance of those tissues.  This technique gentle helps mobilize the supporting tissue around the viscera to help restore its natural mobility. .
